We are performing as the guests of the Kamloops Community Band at their Play Like The Dickens concert, their annual fundraiser for the Richard Dickens Music Scholarship Fund. Starting this year, it will also be a fundraiser for the Donald Bennet Music Legacy Fund.
Dick Dickens was a long time music teacher in Kamloops, and the founder of the Community Band. After his passing in 2009 a scholarship was set up in his name which provides $2,000 a year for four years to a student who has shown exemplary aptitude and achievement in music and is continuing in full-time music studies at the post-secondary level. Don Bennett leaves a rich legacy of music & education, having spent over 35 years in music education, as well as being an active musician in our community. The Donald Bennet Music Legacy Fund will help provide financial assistance toward the purchase of services to enhance community-based music events of all kinds.
Most of the guys in SNT have connections to Dick and Don so we are very happy to be helping raise money for these two fantastic funds. The Community Band will be be performing some energetic marches (Dick’s favourite!) along with a fun mix of classic wind band repertoire like Holst’s First Suite in Eb and band arrangements of songs like Toto’s Africa. We’ll be singing our usual mix of songs ranging in styles from pop to rock to sea shanties and everything in between, with our (un)usual brand of unique humour.
