When the world shut down for COVID-19 in March of 2020, we wanted to continue to make music together albeit not in the “normal” sense as we couldn’t be in the same room together. Thankfully, we live in an age of incredible telecommunications technologies, which enabled us to be a “Quarantined Quartet” recording our parts in isolation to combine them together later and create a video. Thus was born the Quarantet Project, doing our best with the resources we had on hand to create a reference track for each of us to sing to and recording ourselves on our cell phones.
Here is a complete collection of all the videos we recorded in the various stages of the Quarantet Project, all in one place:
Phase I – Recording at home on our phones
Phase Ia – The world was reopening somewhat and we could be in the same room again (briefly)
Phase II – It’s A Quarantet Christmas
Phase III – We got fancy USB microphones to improve the audio quality
We took an audio-first approach; each recording multiple takes of just audio, editing that together, then we each made a video lip-syncing to the final audio product.
